Dr.
Peterson has been practicing Sports and Orthopaedic Medicine
since 1985. He became interested in this special field of medicine through
his own athletic pursuits. He has finished 15 marathons and numerous
triathlons and continues to be active in fitness pursuits.
Dr. Peterson received his M.D. degree from the University of Wisconsin
medical school. He has trained extensively in Orthopaedic Medicine,
Acupuncture, Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy, Neural Therapy and Prolotherapy.
He is a member of the American Association of Orthopaedic Medicine and
the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture. He is also a member of
the Society of Orthopaedic Medicine and the Lane County Medical Society.
Having been trained at a conventional medical school, Dr. Peterson is
aware of the need to do a thorough history and physical exam as well
as indicated tests and x-rays before making a precise medical diagnosis.
He is aware of the indications and contraindications as well as the
success and complication rates of conventional medical treatments such
as surgery and prescription medications. He uses and recommends these
therapies when indicated, but considers himself to be a holistic practitioner.
He encourages you to participate in the decision making process as he
discusses the options available to diagnose and treat your problem.
He treats all diagnosed injuries with simple, conservative, yet efficient
and cost effective methods. Whenever possible he utilizes treatment
methods that enhance the body's capacity to heal itself. Osteopathic
Manipulative Therapy, Acupuncture, Neural Therapy and Prolotherapy are
all effective methods of promoting the body's recovery from injury.
Some of these methods may be considered "alternative medicine"
by some, but are a good alternative to many of the prescripton drug
and surgical methods used.
