Orthopedic Medicine

The specialty of Orthopedic Medicine was founded by Dr. James Cyriax in London in the 1940’s and 1950’s. He was both an Internist and an Orthopedic Surgeon. He asserted that a precise tissue diagnosis was needed to solve a pain problem. He developed a system of medical history and physical exam techniques to determine which specific part of a specific structure (tendon, ligament, joint, etc.) needs treatment. No MRI or ultrasound was available in those days, so the diagnosis needed to be made in the clinic.

By attending a series of seminars and workshops and taking a certifying exam in these techniques, Dr. Peterson became certified by the British Orthopaedic Medicine Society in 1994.

When Dr. Peterson examines you in his clinic, you will be impressed by the thoroughness of his diagnostic exam and his ability to focus on the dysfunctional/damaged tissue that is causing your pain.
